Abstract
Listeria monocytogenes infection is not a common disease and the clinical manifestations are usually septicemia and meningitis. In Korea, about 16 bacteriologically proven infections are reported. But listeriosis in pregnancy is not reported until now. The authors isolated L. monocytogenes from blood culture of a 27-year-old pregnant woman at IUP 36 weeks with abnormal liver function. The isolate showed typical morphological, cultural and biochemical characteristics of L. monocytogenes and was serovar la. The isolate was susceptible to ampicillin, cephalothin, gentamicin, kanamycin, tobramycin and erythromycin by the disk diffusion test..The pregnant woman delivered the female baby with premature labor and recovered without any complication. The baby was not considered to have been affected by listeria.
